The Mask

You wonder what you see

You may question what is shown

Now hear the answer

Only you’ll receive

Each morning

It is put on

To hide the pain

To mask the ache

A smile

A twinkle in an eye

Both are mastered

To seem so very real

Every night

Before sleep comes

It changes

And the reality shows

A sad little girl

A broken hearted teen

A lonely young woman

Each still a part of me

But all you’ll ever see

Is the mask that is put on

When you see me you’ll never know

The part of me that doesn’t show
