#27
I set blaze to it
Watched my past turn to amber
Crinkled corners so familiar
Coals pop and sizzle
Fiery bits rising to the sky
I watch with adoring eyes
Anew
My soul cleansed
Wiping ash and soot
from a refreshed face
Peering upon a barren landscape
White canvas
awaits the first brushstroke
I am eager
But hesitant
Unwilling to scribble a future past
before basking in unknown
All I’ve known
Simply road beneath my feet
Sneakers burning away pavement
Smoldering bits of memory
Fire in eyes,
Soul
To become far more
than bits of coal
I leave behind dust
Racing towards uncertainty
