The author is a retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer. An acknowledged expert in high cliff rescue, he is a veteran of 1,660 search and rescue missions in the Red River Gorge. The recipient of numerous national awards include a Presidential Citation, USDA Honor Award, Congressman Award of Merit. Federal Law Enforcement Heroism Award, and a Kentucky Senate Award of Merit, he was responsible for the donation of Fitchburg Furnace to the U.S.Forest Service. The founder of the Gladie Creek Historic Site, he played a key role in establishing the Gladie Cultural & Environmental Learning Center. Serving the public for almost a half-century, he is the published author of five books relating to the Red River Gorge. He summed up his long and eventful career with "It's been a great ride."
