A.J. Walkley's Queer Greer Featured in The Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide
December 2, 2009 – The November/December 2009 issue of The Gay & Lesbian Review Worldwide featured a review of Wordclay author A.J. Walkley's Queer Greer as part of a three book review entitled “The Young and the Bi” by Sheela Lambert.
The common thread between the three books reviewed is teenage girls going through the complexities of becoming and being bisexual. In the section of the review that features Queer Greer the reviewer commends Walkley for portraying “sensitive and realistic” feelings the main character experiences.
The reviewer also states, “All three authors have a good ear and create an authentic teen voice in their narration and dialogue. All three successfully capture the angst of adolescence: the pressure on teenage girls to be thin and feminine and to have a boyfriend; the loneliness, isolation and confusion experienced by teens who are different; and so on.”
A. J. Walkley is a reporter, freelance writer and media correspondent in the United Nations.

Author Michael Philion Featured in Nashua Telegraph Author's Forum for American Indian Novel Baggattaway
May 29, 2009 — Last Sunday, May 24, 2009, author Michael Philion and his Wordclay publication Baggattaway were featured in the local Nashua Telegraph Author's Forum. Discussing his motivation for writing the novel with interviewers, Philion said, "I heard an account of a battle during Pontiac's Rebellion in which Indian tribes violently retook a Michigan fort using their game of baggattaway as a ruse … and I developed my novel around this historical core idea."
Philion hails from the Adirondack community of Glens Falls in upstate New York. After attending college at SUNY Binghamton and working the medical device marketing field, he soon married and later transitioned from world business traveler to German teacher in 1996. At that time, he began writing fiction involving pre-Contact Eastern Woodlands civilizations, the many dozens of American Indian tribes who lived there, and their sacred game of baggattaway (lacrosse), which would eventually become his first novel.
"Baggattaway is geared to the literary fiction reader, especially those interested in Native America and sport," Philion continued later in the interview. "My hope is that readers will register the shocking loss of cultural identity for the Native American tribes and celebrate its temporary resurrection."

Book Review of Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues by Tamesha S. Hawkins in Philadelphia Stories: Fiction/Art/Poetry of the Delaware Valley (print and forthcoming online)
March 20, 2009 — Self-published with the help of Wordclay in December 2007, Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues by author Tamesha S. Hawkins had received critical acclaim and much deserved attention in the last year, one of her readers and fans Christina Weaver (reviewer for Philadelphia Stories and author of the forthcoming memoir What You Lose on the Rounabout) said of Hawkins' debut book of poetry:
"Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues reveals a modern young woman's struggle to find that one sustaining relationship that is worthy of her love and intelligence. Hawkins wraps her poems in a priceless menu that I read one wickedly delicious and occasionally indigestible meal at a time, a poem from each course. Hawkins is a master chef who uses her words as fresh ingredients to create a fusion of feelings whose common denominator is painful honesty."
"The first poem in the appetizer section starts, 'I am/ Like an old forgotten piano/ Waiting to be fine tuned/ Sitting alone.' Readers travel through taut stanzas of hope, rejection, passion, rage and dispiritedness. The final words are 'That love, if you want to call it that/ Never had a chance/ It finally comes together/ It's time to let go.'"
"Not ready to let go, I went to Hawkins' MySpace page. There I heard the words I had read aloud to myself, in her own voice, both spoken and sung, hauntingly pure and richly melodic, all perfectly enunciated. What a joy! I am already hungry for a reading from the menu at the next restaurant, Confectionately Yours, scheduled for publication in 2009."
