What is the Barnes and Noble See Inside™ Program service?

Barnes and Noble’s See Inside™ Program allows potential customers to preview a realistic rendering of your book on their computer as if flipping through pages at a bookstore. This electronic representation of your book gives Barnes and Noble shoppers the opportunity to gather more information about the product to determine if your book is right for them.

Customers can navigate the pages not only through the navigation bar, but through the table of contents as well. They can also use the search box to find pages which include their search terms.

Will my book be shelved at Barnes and Noble?

This service is a marketing tool to assist with online sales and is only associated with Barnes and Noble's online bookstore. The ISBN and Channel distribution are what make it possible for your book to be orderable online as well as from any Barnes and Noble store.

The decision to shelve your book is up the each individual bookstore manager. However, you can use online sales as evidence of success when persuading bookstore managers to shelve your book in their stores.

For more tips on how to approach bookstores with requests to shelve your title, see our FAQ about marketing your book.

What are some of the benefits of the See Inside™ Program?

The Barnes and Noble See Inside™ Program is a proven technique to increase awareness about your book and establish trust with new readers, which in turn increases the likelihood of book sales.

Purchase of the See Inside™ Program also increases the visibility of your book on the Internet. For example, browsers of BarnesandNoble.com can now learn if your book contains material that interests them by searching on keywords within your pages. Compared with books of similar topics and price, those with additional visibility sell better than those without.

Plus, allowing readers to preview your book before purchase enhances the overall customer experience. Think of a movie preview, for example. Though there may be spoilers, the overall theme or content of the movie might appeal to you enough to purchase a ticket. Adding this feature will definitely help whet a reader's appetite.
