Will my book be included in Wordclay's Self-Publishing Bookstore?

Yes, once you have finished self-publishing your book, it will receive its own Web page in the Wordclay Bookstore for our DIY-published books. However, you have the option during the online publishing process to keep your book private and out of our Bookstore if you prefer.

Why are there strange formatting errors or HTML code on my book's Web page?

One of the most common causes of formatting errors and HTML code appearing on your book's Web page is due copying and pasting the original text from a word processing document, such as Microsoft Word. This errant coding is actually special formatting instructions that are used within the Word program that carry over when copying and pasting. While these instructions are helpful in Word and not even visible to the user, they can cause issues by showing up on your book's Web page if they are not removed first. For example, you might see HTML strings that look like this:

Normal0falsefalsefalseEN-USX-NONEX-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes;

The easiest way to clean your text to correct the problem (or to avoid this from occurring during the publishing process) is by copying and pasting your text into a simple program that doesn't use complex instructions, such as Notepad. Here's an example of how to update your "About the Book" when it is originally saved within a Microsoft Word document:

  1. Within your Word document, select the text that you want to use for your "About the Book" section on your Web page.
  2. Copy the text (Ctrl + C).
  3. Paste the text (Ctrl + V) in an open Notepad document (.txt file), or any other kind of basic text editor program.
  4. Select the text in Notepad and copy it (Ctrl + C).
  5. Paste (Ctrl + V) the new, cleaned text into the "About the Book" section with in the wizard when you are publishing your book, or within the section to update this text in your Author Control Panel.

How do I create a link to my book's Web page in the Bookstore? Do you have any tips?

You can, and should, link to your book in blogs and comments. It's a great way to spread the word about your book. However, it's critical that your online book promotion is easy to find and user-friendly. That includes linking correctly to your book(s). A failed, ineffectual or absent link can cancel the effort of actually posting a blog post, article or comment about it.

Here's how to create a link that not only it directs the reader exactly where they need to go, but also it increases your title's Web presence:

1) Direct people to your book's specific page in our Bookstore.

To obtain the URL of your book's specific Web page in Wordclay's Bookstore, enter your book's title, author name, ISBN or certain keyword in the Bookstore search window. Click on your book until it is the main book featured on the page, including information "about the book," "about the author, "free preview" and a full cover image. Once you're on the page, copy the URL in your browser (the Web address). The URL will look something like this:

http://www.wordclay.com/BookStore/BookStoreBookDetails.aspx?bookid=33459

2) When creating the link, use keywords for the clickable text, instead of just linking the URL.

Once you have the URL to your book's Web page, don't just create a hyperlink from the URL itself. Instead, use keywords for the anchor text (the clickable text). Some of the best keywords to use are the title of your book.

For example, you should NOT link to your book like this: http://www.wordclay.com/BookStore/BookStoreBookDetails.aspx?bookid=33459

Instead, link it like this:
Growing Up Girl

If your title doesn't contain desired keywords, you could use other words to describe the book. For example, if your book about how to plan a wedding affordably is called, The Perfect Day, you could hyperlink the words "Budget Wedding Planning" in a sentence, such as, "You can purchase my book about budget wedding planning, called The Perfect Day, from Wordclay."

Can I get a direct link to my book's Web page for book marketing purposes?

Yes, you can purchase a Registered Internet Domain Name through our Services Store. You can choose the name of the Web site, and we will register it for you. It's an excellent book marketing tool to place on promotional materials. For example, you can place the domain name on business cards, posters, flyers and online. Then, instead of potential readers searching through the Wordclay Bookstore Web site to find your book, they can simply enter your domain name (such as www.yourbook.com) in the Web browser address bar, and they'll be taken directly to your book's page on our Web site.
