Service Categories:
Retail Channel Distribution (included with the purchase of any package)
A critical element to your book's commercial success, distribution ensures that retailers can order your book directly through their own suppliers, as well as place your book for sale on their Web sites.
After your title is published and available for purchase, copies will be made available for order through more than 25,000 retail outlets worldwide. For most bookstores, your book will appear in retailers' system within 30 to 60 business days. Retailers' Web sites begin to display your book for purchase sooner, typically within 14 to 21 business days.
ISBN Registration (included with the purchase of any package)
We'll register and obtain your book's unique International Standard Book Number, or ISBN, without delay. The ISBN will be included on the copyright page as well as the back cover, with a globally compatible barcode for modern scanners.
U.S. Copyright Registration … $150.00 (included in the Premier and Select packages)
Your book will be officially registered with the U.S. copyright office, issued a copyright number and further protected under copyright law. That means that you'll have the right to seek damages should any party use your work without your expressed permission. After your book is published, we'll send your book to the U.S. federal copyright office in Washington, D.C. to complete the registration. While the registration number is not printed in the book, you will receive a certificate of registration after the process is completed in six to 12 months.
Library of Congress Control Number … $150.00 (included with Premier and Select packages)
We obtain your specific Pre-assigned Control Number (PCN) within five business days. The registered Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN) will be placed on the copyright page of your book, and a printed copy of your book will be sent directly to the Library of Congress as is required.
Google and Amazon Search Programs … $75.00 (included with Premier and Select packages)
A strong Internet presence is essential in today's market. With this service bundle, your book will be included in two innovative programs: Search Inside™ on Amazon.com and Book Search through Google™.
Higher and more accurate search results for keywords within your publication will help online searchers find your book more often. Plus, potential readers will be able to examine a sample of your book by viewing pictures of actual pages — much like shoppers flipping through a book at their local bookstore. But rest assured that your content is safe; each search program has policies in place to protect your original work.
An electronic copy of your book will be submitted to the book search programs typically within 48 hours after your book becomes available for purchase. Each company then completes their individual processes to analyze the content and common keywords found in your book. Becoming established within these programs can take anywhere from five to 10 weeks.
Retail Return Insurance … $799.00 (Two years included with Premier package, one year with Select)
Retail Return Insurance is one of the most beneficial services you can purchase to encourage retailers to buy your book. Many retail stores actually have policies against ordering non-returnable titles. But even without these policies in place, retailers are more likely to order books that are returnable, since they can easily recoup their losses should copies of a returnable book go unsold.
Retail Return Insurance is an exceptional service for any author:
- No risk of financial loss for retailer
- Does not affect your royalty payments
- Overcomes a major barrier to successful book sales in bookstores
- Yearly insurance is renewable for $400 per year
Depending on when you purchase the service, your book will be returnable within two to seven weeks. If you buy the insurance before your book is available, your book will be at the faster end of the timeline; the insurance availability will be slower if purchased after your book is already available. Additionally, it can take approximately 30 to 60 days for your book's returnable status to circulate through the distribution channel and update within retailers' systems. Rest assured, you will always have the option to renew your insurance before the year of coverage is complete.

Cover Text Editing … $49.00 (included with the Premier package)
Grammatical errors and typos on the back cover of your book can be detrimental to your book sales. With Cover Text Editing, one of our copyeditors will edit your back cover text line by line to ensure that any errors are caught before publishing. Whether the text describes your book, the author, or both, the content on the back of your book will be fully edited within five to 10 business days.
Editorial Review … $349.00 (included with the Premier package)
You've worked hard to write your manuscript, but even a well-written book can be spoiled by editorial oversights. No matter the size of the audience you're trying to reach, let us help ensure your book is at the top of it's game.
With the Editorial Review, one of our practiced editors will examine your manuscript to ensure that it is ready for publishing. Within approximately one to two weeks, the reviewer will provide you with a general overview of your manuscript as well as constructive comments on how to improve your book. Also, your reviewer will recommend any editing services he or she feels are necessary.
After you've received the review results, you are free to choose what action you'd like to take next. Whether you decide to purchase the suggested editing services through Persona Publishing, hire a freelance editor, or proceed with publishing your book as it is, it's entirely your choice.
Copyediting … $0.018 per word
Ensure that your manuscript is ready for publishing with copyediting. One of our experienced copyeditors will read your manuscript to catch and correct any errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation. In addition, the copyeditor will apply an industry-standard style when necessary. The copyediting process is typically completed within two to three weeks.
Line Editing … $0.024 per word
When you purchase line editing, an editorial specialist will make necessary changes in your manuscript to correct more pervasive errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. In addition, the editor will also make light recommendations for improving the overall readability of the work, including word choice and sentence structure. This more concentrated line edit requires approximately two to three weeks to complete.
Content Editing … $0.029 per word
For manuscripts that need more attention than Line Editing affords, the Content Editing service provides extensive care to works in need of restructuring.
A content editor will work to ensure the general accuracy and consistency of content. He or she will focus on more extensive restructuring of sentences in addition to performing the functions of a line edit. The type of work that you submit for content editing will determine on what factors your editor concentrates. Fiction titles will be edited for important details and consistency within the plot, characters and setting. Nonfiction titles will benefit from the editor's attention to consistency of information and ideas. This intensive edit requires two to three weeks time to give your manuscript the attention it deserves.
Developmental Editing … $0.053 per word
Developmental Editing service is a complete package of editorial services, including:
- developmental evaluation of the work as a whole
- content edit to correct typos, spelling, grammar and syntax
- quality review to catch any errors overlooked
Step one: A developmental editor gives your manuscript a high-level review at the paragraph, chapter and book levels. You are then provided with a sample of the developmental work to approval. Next, the editor continues through the manuscript to identify areas of your work that may need overall revisions.
The editor will review nonfiction works to determine if the content is complete and appropriate for the readership and purpose of the work. The editor also analyzes the work to ensure that (1) images, lists and tables are used effectively throughout, (2) concepts are developed adequately, (3) and material is well organized.
For fiction works, the editor will determine whether the content relates appropriately to the readership and genre. Plot, pace, characterization and dialog are also considered.
Step two: After you've completed any large scale changes at the suggestion of the developmental editor, the content editor takes over. Errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure will be caught and corrected by the editor.
Step three: Finally, your manuscript will receive one last quality review to ensure that it's ready to be published.
This entire editing process typically is completed within eight to 10 weeks (not including any time that you spend with the manuscript).
Ghostwriting … $299.00 for a cost estimate and sample
Want to tell your story but don't necessarily have the time or patience to write the book to your standards? When you hire a ghostwriter through Persona Publishing, you can work with a professional writer who possesses a general knowledge of the subject matter of your book, in addition to writing skills. The writer can use either a first draft of the manuscript, or rough material that you supply (such as notes, interview transcripts, or reports) to write the book in consultation with you.
Before the entire project begins, the ghostwriter examines materials you supply and provides both a cost estimate and writing samples for your approval. The price quote to write the complete manuscript depends on the following factors: the expected length of the manuscript; the materials you provide; the amount of independent research expected of the ghostwriter; and the individual ghostwriter you select.
Upon your approval of the writing samples, you are welcome to purchase the full Ghostwriting service at the price provided. The payment for the estimate and writing sample ($299) will be applied toward cost if purchased (but it is not refundable in the event that you do not purchase the full ghostwriting service).
Data Entry … $2.25 per page
Is your manuscript only in hardcopy? Relax, we can help prepare your manuscript for publishing by converting hand-written or printed text into electronic text.
Researching … $60.00 per hour (estimate given based on work)
Knowledgeable in your book's subject, researchers will assist you by gathering facts and information as needed. Whether you're working on a historical, military, technological book or family memoir, we can help you gather precise and accurate information. An estimate for the amount of time required to complete the work varies from book to book depending on topic, depth of content, length of work, etc. The total cost is estimated based on the work needed at a rate of $60.00 per hour, so contact us for a quote.
Proofreading … $0.009 per word (available for works edited through Persona Publishing or Morgan James)
As many publishing professionals know, even the best copyeditor in the business coupled with the most careful author can still inadvertently overlook or create a few mistakes in their manuscripts. Even manuscripts that have undergone our trusted, thorough editorial review services can have the occasional remaining error. In fact, most traditional publishers proofread a manuscript at least twice.
For those authors whose manuscripts have already undergone editing through Persona Publishing or Morgan James, a proofreader will conduct a character-by-character check for both mechanical errors, such as misspellings, missing words, incorrect cross-references, and formatting problems with areas such as word breaks, letter and word spacing, margins and headings. Proofreading is typically completed within a one to two weeks time period.

Custom Book Interior Typesetting (included with the purchase of any package)
Our practiced book technicians will professionally design the interior of your book to meet today's standards for your specific genre. This maximizes your book's readability for your targeted audience and elevates your book to the level of quality often demanded by reviewers, retailers and book buyers.
You can offer your input while your designer uses their expertise to select font styles and sizes, chapter-start styles, table of contents design, running headers, page numbers and images. Up to five hours of design time are included with this service. The first proof of your galley, or book's interior, is typically completed within five business days after your layout consultation.
Your final approval of the galley is essential before moving forward with your book. Please note that this interior layout service does not include editing, so you should submit your manuscript in its final form. Additional correction fees will apply to any changes requested to text within your original manuscript.
Additional Interior Design Time … $50.00 per hour
Our custom book interior design service is included with each Persona Publishing package. Although five hours of design time are included with the service, additional design time is always an option for $50.00 per hour. Experiment with additional looks, request advanced design and formatting services or whatever you need to meet the vision you have for your book.
Indexing … $0.015 per word
Our indexers will create an industry-standard, personalized two-level topical index. A professional indexer analyzes your book to highlight and organize key pieces of information within your non-fiction title, so that information is intuitively organized and accessible to readers searching for a specific topic. Unlike the excessively lengthy, complex and unorganized computer-generated keyword indexes that list a page number each time a key term appears inside the book, your personalized index is designed to provide maximum usability to your readers.
Once your book is finalized and the pagination is set, your one-of-a-kind index will be carefully compiled within two weeks by our professional indexer. The four elements that make your book unique — focus, purpose, audience and organization — will be taken into consideration.
Please note: Since we craft indexes from the final, formatted, author-approved pages, any changes made to your book after indexing may alter the pagination and reduce the index's usability.
Image Manipulation … $10 per image
Don't have the time, patience or technique to perfect images for you book? Let us know how we can help. Whether it's cropping, red-eye reduction, resizing, resolution conversion or touch-ups, our graphic designers will prepare your images for printing in your book.
Illustrations
Bring characters, scenes, maps or anything from your imagination to life with custom illustrations. You don't have to be an artist to have gorgeous illustrations in your self-published book — we have plenty of talent in-house! Fantasy novels can benefit from a custom map that brings the land you've created from your imagination into new focus. Characters from fiction works can be brought to life, guided by your vision. Non-fiction books can benefit from custom maps and charts, recreations of scenes from the past, or realistic portraits of individuals. Or, maybe you'd just like to spruce up your book's chapter starts with custom artwork. Request almost any subject, and we'll create it. You also have your choice of styles and medium, such as graphite, charcoal, paint, mixed media, graphic design, etc. There are three levels of detail to choose from for these illustrations:
Level 1: Black and White … $129.00 per illustration/ Color … $189.00 per illustration
A level-1 illustration adds a personal touch to any book. Level 1 is the most basic of the three levels, and constitutes line drawings, or filled drawing without 3-D shading. The clean lines and uniform colors create a simplistic style that adds a classic look to any book.
Level 2: Black and White … $159.00 per illustration/ Color … $229.00 per illustration
A level-2 illustration adds fine detail to the illustrations. This level of artistry adds basic shadows and highlights to give the illustrations a greater level of depth and dimension.
Level 3: Black and White … $199.00 per illustration/ Color … $279.00 per illustration
These are the highest level of complexity we offer. The illustrations include elements of intricate design in each piece. Details, textures and varying value are added by the artist to create a high level of 3-dimensionality to each illustration.
Once you've selected the level and number of illustrations, we'll contact you within two weeks to arrange a conference. You'll discuss your ideas and provide instructions about the final appearance of the illustrations you want. We'll send you the first draft copies within 30 business days. After receiving the proofs, you can request changes or approve them. Once the proofs are approved, we'll create the final artwork within 30 business days.

Press Release Services
Press Release Composition … $149.00
Members of the media receive hundreds of press releases each day and quickly disregard those that do not meet their standards, one of which is AP style. Now, you can relax knowing that your press release was written by an experienced media professional.
After completing a questionnaire to provide background information, one of our in-house press release specialists will compose your one-page press release, disclosing valuable information such as: the announcement that your book is available, details regarding what it's about, how to order a review copy and facts to pique the interest of the bustling media.
You will have the opportunity to review and approve the press release before it is finalized. The entire process is typically completed within a four week time period.
After receiving a finished copy of the press release, you can distribute copies to outlets of your choice, including traditional media such as newspapers, magazines and radio stations, or non-traditional recipients, such as friends, family or local retail stores.
Standard Book Marketing … $299.00
Concise and proficient, a press release is a useful tool to help spread the word about your book. Just as with our press release composition service, a professionally-written press release will be composed by one of our in-house specialists. However, unlike the composition service, we will distribute your release as well.
You receive a questionnaire to complete and return, which starts the ball rolling. Once one of our specialists composes your press release, you'll be able to review the text and make changes if needed. At that time, you'll also be asked to select three cities where we will distribute your approved press release to 100 media outlets.
After we've distributed your press release, you'll receive a "media list" for follow-up. The list contains contact information of the media outlets to which we sent your press release. The entire process is typically completed within a six-week time period.
Expanded Book Marketing … $599.00
The Expanded Book Marketing service is a step above the Standard. You still receive a professionally-written press release in AP style, distribution of the release and a copy of the media list. But instead of only 100 media outlets in three cities, this service includes 300 outlets in five cities. You also receive 30 Press Kits to help your follow-up with the media and book market associates.
Newswire Plus Media Blast … $750.00
This is another of our press release services that includes the composition of your press release by one of our in-house specialists. First, you will complete a questionnaire to give the writer an idea about you, your book and the target audience. You'll have the opportunity to reviewed your press release and request necessary changes before it is distributed.
Once approved, your press release will be distributed through PR Newswire™, the leader in newswire services. Through the newswire, your press release will be available to more than 17,000 forms of media, including book reviewers and other organizations that subscribe, such as Web sites, online databases, news sources, blogs, and well-known sites such as Google™ News and Yahoo!™ News.
While we don't have a complete list of all the outlets due to the sheer volume, you can download a list of the top 100 PR Newswire outlets here.
After your press release is distributed, we will e-mail you a list of at least 10 confirmed sites that are posting your press release. The entire process is typically completed within a six-week time period.
Media Alert … $75.00
For our authors who have already utilized one of our press release services, the media alert enables you to distribute your press release again to a targeted audience. Whether you simply want to resend copies to boost your marketing efforts, or create a buzz surrounding an upcoming event, the media alert can help. You can even add details regarding a book signing or other coming literary event. Once you've approved the release, we'll distribute it to 75 media outlets in the city of your choice, and supply you with the contact list to follow-up afterward.

*PPI means "pages per inch." A page in this case means the actual piece of paper, or front and back of a sheet of paper, which technically would be counted as two pages of text in the book.
Interior pages and color are printed in full color (CMYK); however, our printer does not allow any text or images to be printed in the interior of the cover.

Earn Royalties for Books Sold (included with the purchase of any package)

Five Free Books (included with the purchase of any package)
Once your book is published, one initial copy of your book will be shipped to your physical address on file. You can claim your additional free copies by contacting us directly to pay the shipping and handling charges.
Since books are printed on demand, you always have the option to order books at any time.
There is neither a minimum, nor maximum book order requirement. Plus, you'll receive the author discount on purchase of your own books. The price per book is determined during the publishing process and depends on the book type, page count and distribution cost.
