BookCrossing and Author Solutions Create Author-friendly "DIY" Publishing

(Feb. 18, 2008 – PLEASANTON, Calif.) – What if there was a way for authors to get their books published and easily distributed to readers worldwide? And what if authors were actually in charge of all decisions and received the highest net returns in the do-it-yourself (DIY) publishing industry? Wordclay and BookCrossing have joined forces to make this vision a reality with AuthorCrossing (http://www.authorcrossing.com), where authors come first.

The partnership of Wordclay (http://www.wordclay.com), the DIY publishing imprint of Author Solutions Inc., and BookCrossing (http://www.bookcrossing.com), the leader in book social networking, is a natural fit. Nearly 15 percent of the BookCrossing community, which includes more than one million people in some 140 countries, are authors as well as readers. AuthorCrossing offers the resources of both companies to all those authors worldwide.

"Our community thrives on sharing literature of all genres with each other, whether at BookCrossing gatherings, through the Web site, or by releasing books 'into the wild' for other readers to find and enjoy," said Scott Sorochak, CEO of BookCrossing. "Now with this partnership, we're giving our author-members a platform to share their works with readers across the globe, as well as a chance to have their book travel the world through BookCrossing. We also wanted to address the needs of all authors interested in self-publishing and believe this is an excellent low cost, high return way to help them jumpstart their writing careers."

BookCrossing members and non-members will be able to start their journey at the BookCrossing site located at www.bookcrossing.com/authorcrossing, which offers a step-by-step process for authors to get their works published. The same location includes features for members and non-members to rate, review, comment on and purchase books, giving these authors an instant online distribution channel and a way to promote their books to a worldwide community of published writers and book lovers.

"We look forward to helping these writers achieve their goals through their writing," said Dave McCauley, Wordclay President. "Whether their goal this year is to publish a professional-looking book of family history to distribute among family members or to finally publish a fiction story they've labored over for years, we're giving them an easy, affordable way to do so."

Beyond creating the book, the partnership also offers distribution services, making books accessible via thousands of retail outlets such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Publishing through Wordclay allows authors to have complete control over the content and design of their books. In addition, authors retain all rights to their work, a rarity in the self-publishing world.
