Are there any special requirements that I should be aware of before purchasing copyediting?
Yes, you must be able to review your edited manuscript using Microsoft® Word version 1997 or newer. Our Wordclay copyeditors use Microsoft Word to track the changes and comments in your manuscript. You will have the opportunity to accept or reject each change individually, or you can accept all of the changes.

What are the steps involved in the process of copyediting?
After you purchase one of our copyediting services, you will submit your manuscript in Microsoft® Word via email. An editor will be assigned to work on your manuscript. When the editing is complete, they will send you an email with the edited manuscript and instructions on what to do next. The timeline for Standard Copyediting is 30-45 business days. The timeline for Express Copyediting is 5-7 business days for manuscripts 100,000 words or less. Content Editing takes approximately 45-70 business days to complete.
You are required to view the manuscript using Microsoft® Word and accept or reject the changes made by the editor. Remember to save your changes to the file.
Once finished, you simply begin the Wordclay online publishing process to build your book. Make sure you upload the correct, edited version of your manuscript when prompted during the publishing process.

How do I accept or reject changes in my edited document?
Using Microsoft® Word, open your copyedited manuscript and save the file to your computer. Next, you'll need to make sure that you have access to certain toolbars. Under "View," select "Toolbars" which will open a drop-down menu. Make sure that "Reviewing" is check marked. It may also be helpful to have the "Formatting" and "Standard" toolbars selected, if they are not already. Once the Reviewing toolbar is available, there will be new icons at the top of your screen, including a drop-down that says "Show." Make sure that under Show, the following is selected: "Final," "Comments," "Insertions and Deletions," "Formatting" and "Balloons."
You should be able to see colored lines and changes, with comments on the side of the document.
If something was changed, it will be in red. If you hover over the text, a balloon will pop-up to provide more detailed information. For instance if the word "dog" was inserted, the hover-text will state the name of the copyeditor, the date and time the change was made and what was changed ("Inserted: dog"). If something was deleted completely, an arrow will point to where the text used to be and the deleted text will be shown in the balloon. If something was deleted and added, the balloon will list both. Formatting changes, like a line indent, will also be displayed. When comments are used, they do not indicate a change was made, but are suggestions from the copyeditor. Feel free to also add or change text on your own.
Read through the manuscript change by change and either "accept" or "reject" the change by either right-clicking on the change then highlighting the appropriate response, or accepting or rejecting each change using the icon buttons on the Reviewing toolbar. You can use the drop-down option to "accept all" which we don't recommend doing, because the editor could have made a change that alters the meaning or intent of your work.
After you accept a change, the text will change from red to black and the change will remain. If you reject the change, it will put the text back to how it was originally and change the text from red back to black.

Does Standard or Express Copyediting include checking the flow, meaning, clarity or content of my manuscript?
No, our Standard Copyediting and Express Copyediting services do not include checking your manuscript for content and flow. Both our standard and express copyediting services include checking the text for basic errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
It you wish to have an editor give your manuscript a thorough content analysis, we offer a full Content Editing service that does include content editing. The Content Editing service includes all the services included in our standard copyediting, plus the complete review of your manuscript for style, clarity and content.

Do you offer an Express Content Editing service?
No, we currently do not offer an expedited content editing service due to the length and complexity of the full content editing service.
